Busan, South Korea

On June 2, 2019June 8, 2019 By WeezeXChristinaIn AsiaLeave a comment

Before moving out of Asia later this year I wanted to do a few more weekend city trips. I’d visited North Korea in 2013, so decided to check out the South. I didn’t really gravitate towards any particular city so when a few friends recommended Busan, I  said alright, & found a cheap flight there. This …

Palau Palau. Wow wow wow.

On April 29, 2019September 14, 2019 By WeezeXChristinaIn Asia, Scuba & Underwater, World War I/World War II3 Comments

‘I love diving but I don’t think I ever look as happy as I see you when I look at your eyes underwater!’ Deco Joe, to me. I looked down, and there it was; through the hundreds of spawning red snapper - my first Bull Shark. Unmistakable with its square snout and thick, sturdy body, …

Tokyo.

On March 9, 2019March 20, 2019 By WeezeXChristinaIn Asia2 Comments

Seeing a hardcore band in Japan was on my wish list of things to do during my time living back in Asia. So when Earth Crisis & Sect announced their Japanese tour it felt like a gift I couldn't refuse. I’d never had any real desire to visit the Japanese capital, and I’d heard Osaka was …

#MyFirstLiveaboard, Diving in Komodo

On September 26, 2018October 11, 2020 By WeezeXChristinaIn Asia, Scuba & Underwater4 Comments

The Diving. Let's start with the diving. Cause it's always about the diving. The reason I decided to face my fears of strong currents and book a liveaboard during full moon, when the currents are in fact at their strongest. So, was it worth it? I clearly survived, but did I enjoy myself?  Fuck yeh …

Sharp Island & Tap Mun (Grass Island) – Sai Kung

On August 5, 2018August 12, 2018 By WeezeXChristinaIn Asia, Hong Kong2 Comments

Sharp Island I needed to get out of the city and into the water, but wanted a little more adventure than my usual 20 minute bus to Repulse Bay - run to Deep Water Bay - collapse in the water for a couple of hours. I’d seen signs for snorkelling at Sharp Island when I first …

Go-en on in Kyoto. Pedalling.

On May 29, 2018May 30, 2018 By WeezeXChristinaIn AsiaLeave a comment

After a decent nights sleep I woke up excited to be getting back on a bike. Caught the 207 bus towards Kyoto Train Station and 25 minutes later I was at the Cycle Kyoto office. I had chosen the 'North Tour' mainly because it covered more sights that the 'South Tour' rather than actually knowing …

Kickin’ it in Kyoto

On May 28, 2018May 28, 2018 By WeezeXChristinaIn AsiaLeave a comment

After not having much initial interest in visiting Japan before this year, I booked my flights back, this time to Kyoto, within a week of landing home from Hiroshima and Miyajima, my first trip in January. I thought it was such a beautiful, interesting country I had to go back and explore more. When I'd asked …

Miyajima

On February 5, 2018February 5, 2018 By WeezeXChristinaIn Asia, Memorial & Politics, World War I/World War II4 Comments

When I left my hostel on Monday morning my heart sank a little. I was prepared for the cold, even for a few short showers, but with the dark, grey skies raining down a mix of rain and snow that wasn't going to settle, I just foresaw myself being very wet, and very cold all …

Hiroshima

On February 1, 2018February 2, 2018 By WeezeXChristinaIn Asia, Memorial & Politics, World War I/World War II5 Comments

Despite being asked many times in my life about what it was like growing up in Japan, I'd never been to the Land of the Rising Sun before. My reason for visiting Hiroshima, unsurprising to anyone that knows me, was the due to it being the place of denotation of the world's first Atomic Bomb. …

Tai Po Market – Historical Walk

On December 10, 2017June 26, 2018 By WeezeXChristinaIn Asia, Hong Kong2 Comments

I always knew Tai Po existed as a place, and perhaps I'd been there as a kid, but I can't remember how it made it on my 'Hong Kong day trip' list. Having done it now, I definitely know why it was put on there. A guided walk around Tai Po Market came on the …

When I signed up to volunteer to help at the KO inter-club I never thought I’d get the role I did; the Announcer! When I saw it I was a little nervous, but mainly super excited - right by the ring, in the centre of it all. Despite initially being shy, when I feel comfortable & know what I’m doing I love this sort of stuff, felt honoured & grateful to be chosen for whatever reason (who knows - could have been out of a hat!) Thanks to the priceless help of Tom, the DJ showing me the ropes, bells, timings - (as well as Leo & Rita, & our little helped Sophia) after a while I got into it & just felt so electric & energised - though it wasn’t till the very end I felt completely in my element (so always happy to do it again!!) The fights were absolutely amazing to watch, the vibe, support, sense of community (from those in KO and the visitors) was just incredible.
10 years. I think it’s important to recognise certain milestones, (non) anniversaries - and this one for me is pretty monumental, but the last time I’ll publicly recognise it I guess. I didn’t really even think I would this year, but wow, 10 years. It’s seems longer, perhaps because it doesn’t seem like it was me, my life.
I cannot over emphasise how incredible last night was. I’ve loved Scooter since my early teens - and after two years of solo raves in my room (for video evidence scroll to the end...) to be out dancing with people, friends - the most amazing natural high. The energy, the vibe - the feels of songs that over the years have either lifted me when I needed it, or just springboarded me higher when I’ve already been flying! Honestly, the song ‘always hardcore’ is just so damn perfect & true. Happy & Heavy hardcore - my absolute favourites. The freedom it brings - just letting the music, the beats infiltrate every part of your soul, and going with it, letting go... 🤘✌️
Having covid a few weeks ago gave me forced a lot of time to stop, & consequently think - really think. Sat in the bath one day I caught a glimpse of myself, curled up, looking pensive, and I realised I was an exact replica of the tattoo on my right arm. The tattoo I got when I turned 30, in a particularly tough point of my life. When I had to rebuild myself up from the shell of a person I’d become. Though currently feeling a similar sense of being lost, uncertainty, & even loneliness- it made me think, & smile - how far I’ve come, how I now feel at home in my own skin - all the incredible things that have happened, that I made happen, since then.
Second proper Muay Thai sparring session today. (Breaking a bone in my hand put pause to that for a while.) It was amazing, fun, exhilarating, exhausting... and frustrating. The skills, drills, combos I’ve been practicing? My brain goes on a mix of overdrive/overload & complete blankness. I train hard, I know I do - but I’m still objectively shit & when all that training is put to the test, and you feel like you’ve failed, executing nothing right - it’s not my favourite. I have to sternly remind myself I am better than I was - I AM learning, progressing.
Sunday Park Boxing. Absolute favourite way to spend the holy day. Always some interesting folk in Kensington Gardens.... this video is 🔥 #boxing #muaythai #boxingwomen #muaythaiwomen
