Back to the Hong Kong homeland

On October 5, 2017February 13, 2020 By WeezeXChristinaIn Asia, Hong Kong1 Comment

Two weeks ago, after a teary goodbye to Mama C and my little FluffyBum (also known as my cat, Matilda), a rather wonderful, though confusingly emotional (excited, sad, happy, nervous)  I landed in Hong Kong with a suitcase, a large backpack, a small backpack, a carry on cabin case, an acoustic guitar, and a handbag. …

Old post - same feelings (from 2019) 💎⚒🖤 Women’s day brings out too many emotions for me. Pride, rage, sadness, positivity, unity.. and despair. It’s the one day I find it hardest to talk about feminism and equality because it overwhelms me. I don’t want a day of celebration. I want equality and respect every day. I’m a white western women; not living under the breadline - and I still experience (and see a lot of) inequality daily. Imagine how it is for someone less privileged than me. At the worst, for millions of women, their lives are full of restriction, fear & abuse. I don’t want revenge. I want equality. Why is that so hard for some to understand and get on board with? If you don’t agree, take a look in the mirror and ask yourself why you think men should rule the world, and are better than women. Because that’s what you’re saying.
Park life with the Parents, Parakeets & Pokémon. Tried Pokemon go for the first time the other day & made my parents catch some today 🤣
I know personally periods, and my menstrual cycle are not something I have given enough attention too - despite doing so much active learning about my mental and physical health - especially in the last decade - but aside from acknowledging I’d be a little more emotional ‘for no reason,’ or crave chocolate that little bit more I was so blasé about it all and in all honestly tried to fight against it. I think I only allowed myself to accept PMS was a thing in my early 30s. And only in the last couple of years did I even both tracking my cycle (with an app.) After being on the pill on and off for decades, then not even having one for 6 months after coming off it entirely, I paid my menstrual cycle almost no attention.
In 2005 I got a chunk of money back after paying Emergency Tax without realising. So, I did the sensible thing & went to SE Asia for 6 weeks - to Laos, Cambodia & Vietnam for the first time. They have changed so much since - whether this is good or bad is not for me to say, there are so many variables/issues - but, I am SO grateful to have visited when it was a little less on the backpack track - so many funny memories & terrible, terrible hostels - being on a night bus in Laos trying to wedge myself into the back row so I didn’t fall on to the guy in the middle of the aisle on a plastic stool with an AK47 is a stand out memory 🤣 it’s crazy - I have almost no photos - before smartphones & just rocking up a hostel hoping they’d have a bed, every few days finding an Internet cafe to tell parents we were ok. In Luang Prabang we rented a little apartment & had a cocktail party on the terrace 😂 (in reality two bare rooms with a few beds - cocktails being local beer - still, it felt fancy...) Spent my birthday scuba diving with Black tip sharks off Koh Phi Phi - not that long after the Tsunami, so the island was only small huts and rebuilding itself from the devastation 💔 (still I managed to get lost one night walking home on the ONE road...) South East Asia is breathtakingly beautiful full of amazing friendly people - with an incredibly interesting, but often very tragic history. So grateful for every moment I’ve spent there & hope one day to go back. 🇱🇦 🇰🇭 🇻🇳 🇹🇭
Happy Birthday Rambu! You absolute incredible human - one of my total rocks - always cheering me on, lifting me up, inspiring me in what you say and what you do, and just you being you - influencing me!! Hehe. Thanks for the birthday FIIT class... Love you so much & missing you from the other side of London!! Have a fabulous day & can’t wait to see your face and adventure again... 🥰💖💎🌏 @chaosrach
